Blue Turn C2C Crochet Blanket: Free Crochet Pattern

I love color and patterns in blankets and corner to corner (C2C) is my favorite way to design and make crochet blankets. This design is a part of a series of mid-century inspired pieces. I hope you enjoy making it as much as I did.

Turn Blue – C2C Crochet Blanket by Chinook Crochet

This blanket is made with a Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK yarn (light worsted typically size 3) as I really enjoy the weight of a cotton blanket but the thinner feel of a DK yarn. You can substitute Paintbox Yarns Simply DK yarn (Acrylic) or alternate DK size yarn to change up the weight and feel. If you use a size 4 worsted/Aran yarn the finished blanket will be larger. Please check your gauge swatch to work out final sizing.

This pattern is written in US terms using the C2C modified Chain 5/3 DC method.

Traditional C2C vs a modified C2C

The traditional C2C method uses Ch 6 and then 3 DC for each square to start a row and
Ch 3 with 3 DC for each square in the row.

A common modification is to use Ch 5 and then 3 DC for each square to start a row and
then Ch 2 with 3 DC for each square in the row.

An additional modification in a modern C2C method uses Ch 5 and then (2 DC, 1 HDC) for
each square to start a row and Ch 2 with (2 DC, 1 HDC) for each square in the row.

This modified method (chain 5/3 DC) feels like it squares up the work a bit more for me based on my
tension and results in a slightly smaller finished project.

Please use whatever C2C method works best for you

Colour Changes

There are a variety of colour change methods in C2C. I have tested a few methods and I
prefer to complete the square and then change colours on the slip stitch between
squares, especially with the modern C2C method listed above.

With this method, complete the last stitch of your square (HDC or DC) and then insert
your hook into the next square and instead of continuing with the previous colour, pick
up your new colour and pull through and complete the slip stitch. Leave long ends to
weave in.

Weaving in Ends

C2C blocks adjust a bit as you work additional rows so weave in ends after you have
moved at least 2-3 rows beyond your current work

Black: 402 Pure Black – 1840 squares – 730 yards – 6 skeins
Dark Blue: 440 Sailor Blue – 880 squares – 350 yards – 3 skeins
Mid Tone Blue: 435 Kingfisher Blue – 600 squares – 240 yards – 2 skeins
Total 14,280 squares – approx +/- 5670 yards

Crocket Hook: 4mm (Clover brand sized G)
