Life in a Lava Lamp C2C Crochet Blanket
Perfect for a living room throw blanket or as an accent piece, this design was inspired by retro patterns and textures. The pattern is part of a series of mid-century inspired pieces and I hope you enjoy making them as much as I do.
If you are new to C2C please check out some additional tutorials on how to work up the stitch. I will be posting one soon as well and will update this pattern with additional resources soon.
Life in a Lava Lamp – C2C Crochet Blanket by Chinook Crochet
This blanket is made with a Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK yarn (light worsted typically size 3) as I really enjoy the weight of a cotton blanket but the thinner feel of a DK yarn. You can substitute Paintbox Yarns Simply DK yarn or alternate DK size yarn to change up the weight and feel. If you use a size 4 worsted/Aran yarn the finished blanket will be larger. Please check your gauge swatch to work out final sizing.
This pattern is written in US terms using the C2C modified Chain 5/3 DC method. Each square on the chart is a C2C crochet square. This is a common modification from the traditional C2C method which uses Ch 6 and 3 DC per square. I find the modified method tightens up a bit and squares up the work a bit better for me. Please use whatever C2C method works best for you.

Colour Changes
There are a variety of colour change methods in C2C. I have tested a few methods and I
prefer to complete the square and then change colours on the slip stitch between
squares.
With this method, complete the last stitch of your square (HDC or DC) and then insert
your hook into the next square and instead of continuing with the previous colour, pick
up your new colour and pull through and complete the slip stitch. Leave long ends to
weave in. C2C blocks adjust a bit as you work additional rows so weave in ends after you have
moved at least 2-3 rows beyond your current work.
